Fennel (Foeniculum vulgare) belongs to the genus Foeniculum It is a member of the family Apiaceae (formerly the Umbelliferae). It is a perennial, umbelliferous herb, with feathery leaves and yellow flowers. It is a highly flavorful and aromatic herb with culinary and medicinal uses.
Cauliflower belongs to the species Brassica oleracea, in the family Brassicaceae. It is an annual plant composed of bunches of tiny florets on clusters of stalks. Usually, only the head (the white curd) of aborted floral meristems is eaten, while the stalk and surrounding thick, green leaves are used in vegetable broth or discarded.
