THE FUCINO
We are talking about one of the most fertile and healthy agricultural areas of Italy, which has become such not by accident.
Fruit of centuries of history, of man's efforts to drain Lake Fucino, the third largest in Italy, which has transformed a fishermen's population into a great tradition of farmers. Attempts began with the Roman emperor Claudius with the construction of tunnels for the flow of water, and successfully completed by Prince Alessandro Torlonia, around 1870.

THE ABRUZZO NATIONAL PARK, LAZIO AND MOLISE
The National Park of Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise is located for about 3/4 in the province of L'Aquila in Abruzzo and the remainder in that of Frosinone in Lazio and in that of Isernia in Molise.
It was inaugurated on 9 September 1922 in Pescasseroli, the current headquarters and central management of the park, while the institution of the same name had already been established on 25 November 1921 with a temporary directory.
The protected area of about 50,000 hectares involves three regions, Abruzzo, Lazio and Molise and 24 municipalities of which 12 from Abruzzo, 5 from Molise and 4 from Lazio.
Its roughly central position in the Italian peninsula and the various extensions carried out over the years in various landscape areas have made the park a precious reservoir of rare and endemic floristic species, a place of protection of the most typical and best preserved environments of the whole Apennines. There are many characteristic flowers of the park, including the Scarpetta di Venere, the Riccio di Dama, the Alpine Star, the Snow Gentian and the Iris Marsica. The large mammals were the main cause of the establishment of the reserve. At one time all the protected animals in the territory of the park were widespread along the entire south-central Apennines, constituting genetically autonomous populations with respect to European species, often real endemisms, zoologically very important yet not entirely studied in their genetic identity. Among the most characteristic species of the protected area are the Marsican brown bear, the Apennine wolf, the lynx, the chamois, the deer and the roe deer; among the birds, the owl and the golden eagle and several species of woodpecker in addition to the peregrine falcon.
